Oops

Ok so that image in the last post is wrong for a number of reasons, most of which have to do with mia_material but some have to do with strange inconsistencies in file paths. My scene likes to send textures off in another folder dimension, looking in exciting locations such as /data/ or even /scenes/ instead of the more appropriate /sourceimages/. Whatever. I got it working. Because I am awesome. And these are HD this time. Still just the beauty pass. Time to stop talking.

 

Final preparations

Getting ready for the end of the quarter. This thing likely won’t look how I want it to, I accept that. However, I’m going to have to put down texturing soon to address other assets like steam in the alley, believable cloth, and manageable render times with room to composite. If I had another solid week of texturing time the whole thing would definitely shine, but I’m still pretty happy with what we’re looking at so far.

Below is a tiny little render that doesn’t show much and likely looks worse than before. My computer was being unusually slow and it was getting late, so this is just a straight up beauty pass shot, no color correction or layers. Regardless, the pipes are getting textured and there are a few more details in the alley. The biggest change has been the hangar area outside, with most everything getting treatment this past week. I threw up renders on the farm before bed, so if those don’t come out black tomorrow I’ll post those as well.

Went ahead and got it setup with the lights from the spaceport, and from the proper camera angle.  Haven’t quite finished the textures from the camera approach, however, they’re pretty close. So I’ve gone and moved ahead to trying to get the rear textures up to par with the rest. Then I’ll go back over and do the reflectivity map and start texturing the engines, landing gear and other random parts of the ship.

Back on the Ship

It’s been quite a while since I’ve done anything to the ship, so here’s some updates. I did most of the panel designs today, and started texturing. So far the upper wing is the only piece that’s had any real texturing done to it, the rest will soon follow. Also did a bunch of detail modeling on the engines.

Yea, bad attempt at being clever, I know. Anyways, got some more stuff figured out with the painting, making some decent progress. That main building is still killing me. However, many things that have been making me cringe, are taken care of. I’m going to push this a little further before I get into the animation stage, however, the ship’s feeling pretty left out. So, after tomorrow, it’s purely ship work for a little while.
